Parking Duty Information for Parent Volunteers
Rear carpark Overview
Thank you so much for volunteering for parking duty at the Farmers’ Market.
Please take a few minutes to read this information as moving cars pose a major risk and we want to ensure we keep everyone as safe as possible at all times - thank you!!
Preparation for your shift: - Please do not bring small children with you as there are lots of moving cars. All ages of children find it very boring (!) Have breakfast before you come as you may not get a break until 10am at the earliest.
If you can’t make it due to childcare or work or other commitments, there is an option to pay a 16 year old student so you can ask us for further details on this. Please do this ASAP so we can find someone to replace you for the shift.
In summary, on the day, the students employed at the gates take the donations straight into locked cashboxes whilst you help them by supervising and aiding them to find car parking spaces and manage the carpark so that the most amount of cars can be fitted in, and no one gets parked in or run over.
You are the supervisor of the students - at the front gate will be a parent plus one student as it is a much smaller space, and most freed up parks can be seen easily from the gate or a brief walk around.
On the rear gate are 2 students plus a parent. It is suggested that one student takes money at the gate, whilst the other student finds spaces for the cars. Some patrons come every week and know where they wish to park and will go there despite your help (!) which is fine as well.
Some days when it is busy, you will need to step in and help the students manage the space. If there is rubbish that needs to be picked up or cars queuing out on the road, please don’t hesitate to give the students instructions. Ask the student(s) taking the donation to walk further inside the gates and motion to the drivers to drive on in to allow cars to come off the road to wait.
On the day,
7am - meet Di at the uniform shop. Help set up chairs and tables.
Head to allocated gate. Wear hi-vis vest provided for safety.
Front - put up signs and flag. Rear - place cones along centre of back oval parallel to north fence, and flag at gate.
9am - give first student a break if quiet. Please ask them to bring down the fullest cashbox to count with me.
9.15am - give second student a break.
Welcome to parkers:
“Welcome to the farmers’ market, thankyou for your visit, would you like to donate to our P&C.?
Please note that it is a one way system. Exit gates are over there (point to exit).
Please be mindful of pedestrians and be careful, drive slowly through the carpark and take care when reversing. “
11am or soon after when quiet. Take signs in and place back against tree. Disassemble flag and put back in black case and ask students to help you bring chairs, flag, cash boxes, back down to uniform shop. Leave both gates open.
Help pack up chairs and tables, usually takes till approx. 11.30am.
FRONT CARPARK - Please mention “kerbs are high and so if concerned, park on areas with no kerbing.” Suggest people do not step on the kerbs as when sandy they are extremely slippery.
With small cars/older drivers, suggest they park on no kerb areas. If none available, suggest they drive out the exit gates, turn left onto Alfred Rd and first left onto Jacaranda Avenue and park in the rear carpark. They can walk through the back of the school grounds which is not much further than parking in the front carpark, and may save damage to their car.
There are 2 disabled bays reserved in the school staff carpark off Montgomery Avenue, so disabled people can be advised to exit, turn left onto Alfred, left again and left again onto Montgomery as it is much safer than trying to turn right onto Alfred Rd.
Due to the limited space, it will get full at times, please close the gates and place the full sign in the driveway so it is clearly visible from the road.
Once you have 4 spaces free, re-open the gates.
REAR CARPARK - Please mention to cars parking in main area “pedestrian access is safest through the back (western end) of the carpark down past the playgrounds and through the school.”
Park cars in the main section first then if needed, you can ask drivers to drive nose-first hard left inside the gates (where the pedestrian path is) and pull their nose into the blue basketball court/ flag poles then carefully reverse to the fence. 2-3 cars can be parked on the opposite side to the fence near that entryway but take care that the row of cars does not get parked in.
Thanks again !! Any concerns or queries, please contact Di on 0411 895 101.
