Parking Duty Information for Students

Front carpark Signs

Rear carpark Overview

Thank you so much for working parking duty at the Farmers’ Market.

Please take a few minutes to read this information as moving cars pose a major risk and we want to ensure we keep everyone as safe as possible at all times - thank you!!

Preparation for your shift: - Please arrive a few minutes before your shift is due to start. Make sure you have eaten breakfast and bring a bottle of water, and wear appropriate clothing for the weather. You can have a break at about 9/9.15am for 10-15 minutes - if you want to buy something from the markets you are welcome to do so with money you have brought with you.

If you can’t make it, please let us know ASAP.

In summary, on the day, the students employed at the gates take the donations straight into locked cashboxes and the parent volunteers supervise and help to find car parking spaces and manage the carpark so that the most amount of cars can be fitted in, and no one gets parked in or run over.

The parent volunteers their time to supervise the students. Students are employed to manage the parking themselves as far as possible.

When it is busy, the parent will help and step in and help manage the space. Parents are also there for safety. In the unlikely event that someone does try and take a cashbox from you, do not argue with them, hand it over and alert the closest adult. The other main risk is being hurt from moving cars, please keep this in mind and stand up when a car enters the carpark as then they are more likely to see you, plus it is respectful.

There are 2 disabled bays reserved in the school staff carpark off Montgomery Avenue.

On the day,

  • 7am or 7.30am start of shift - meet Di at the uniform shop. Help set up chairs and tables.

  • Head to allocated gate. Wear hi-vis vest provided for safety. Take cash box, square terminal, and chairs and flags. Rear carpark, if not set out already please place cones down centre of main oval in a line from east to west (parallel to Lobelia St. See rear carpark overview image for cones location). Front carpark, if not set out already, please ask parents for help if needed and place signs out on Alfred Rd (see front carpark signs image). Both locations, place flags at entry gates.

  • 9am or soon after once quiet - first student takes a break (please check with the parent). Please bring fullest cashbox down to count with me at the uniform shop.

  • 9.15am - second student has a break once the first student is back.

  • Welcome to parkers:-

Welcome to the farmers’ market, thankyou for your visit, would you like to donate to our P&C.?

Please note that it is a one way system. Exit gates are over there (point to exit).

Please be mindful of pedestrians and be careful, drive slowly through the carpark and take care when reversing. “

  • For both entries, when it is busy, there is a danger of traffic queueing on the road. To help avoid this please walk further inside the gates and motion to the drivers to drive further in to allow cars to come off the road to wait.

  • Both students should be standing up when there is a car entering. One of you is greeting people and accepting donations, the other is aiding drivers on where to park.

  • Cash Handling policy means cash goes straight from the donator into the locked cash tin.

  • 9.30 or 10am - parent will take their break and can bring down a cashbox if it is quite full.

  • 11am or soon after when quiet, pack up. Take signs/cones in and place back against tree. Disassemble flag and put back in black case and bring chairs, flag, cash boxes, back down to uniform shop. Leave both gates open.

  • Help pack up chairs and tables. Wipe any dirty chairs down and wipe all table surfaces. One or two students need to empty all except one wheelie bins. Collect each rubbish bag from the toilets. All rubbish goes into the skip bins in the staff carpark. Then place new bin liners into the bins and store back in the shed.

  • If you observe rubbish, please pick it up and put it in a bin.

  • Thanks again !! Any concerns or queries, please contact Di on 0411 895 101.

FRONT CARPARK - Please mention “kerbs are high and so if concerned, park on areas with no kerbing.”

Suggest people do not step on the kerbs as when sandy they are extremely slippery.

With small cars/older drivers, suggest they park on no kerb areas.

If none available, suggest they drive out the exit gates, turn left onto Alfred Rd and first left onto Jacaranda Avenue and park in the rear carpark. They can walk through the back of the school grounds which is not much further than parking in the front carpark, and may save damage to their car.

Due to the limited space, it will get full at times, please close the gates and place the full sign in the driveway so it is clearly visible from the road.

Once you have 4 spaces free, re-open the gates.

REAR CARPARK - Please mention to cars parking in main area “pedestrian access is safest through the back (western end) of the carpark down past the playgrounds and through the school.”

Park cars in the main section first. Cars park front to front along the middle cones.

Please do not allow cars to park beyond the cones towards the front gate end as there is a danger that the roadway then leads cars to drive through the sandpit and get bogged.

If busy, you can ask drivers to drive frontways hard left inside the gates (where the pedestrian path is) and turn the front of their car towards the blue basketball court/ flag poles then carefully reverse to the fence. (See image).

2-3 cars can be parked on the opposite side to the fence near that entryway but take care that the row of cars does not get parked in.
