Parking Duty Information for Students
CHECKLIST OF DUTIES
Arrive neat and clean and dressed for the weather a few minutes before your shift is due to start
Pick up vest and cash box plus Square Terminal from Store Room
Go to gate with flags/chairs
Make sure all is set up as follows:
FRONT GATE - Signs out on verge, flag up and secured - see photos
BACK GATE - Cones placed along centre of carpark and signs up - see photos
Position yourself 2-3 car lengths inside the gates to allow room for a queue of cars and prevent traffic on the road.
Greet the public with a smile and say
Welcome to the farmers’ market, thank you for your visit, would you like to donate to our P&C.?
Please note that it is a one way system. Exit gates are over there (point to exit).
Please be mindful of pedestrians and drive slowly through the carpark and take care when reversing. “
Always respect people and be friendly and polite. Please follow any direction from your parent supervisor, including picking up rubbish etc.
FRONT GATE - when full, place out the full sign so cars re-direct to rear oval. If a car accidentally is allowed in and there is no space they can either wait in off the road, or drive on out the exit and go around to the rear oval.
REAR OVAL - when busy, cars can be parked along the fence line - please see photos. Do not park them too close to the entrance as that will block the furthest cars from exiting.
Break from working - 15 minutes in middle of shift, ie at 9am for 7am start and 9.30am for 7.30 start.
Bring down fullest cashbox to the Uniform Shop area to count the money.
7-11am SHIFT - come back with cash box and chair and flag a few minutes before 11am.
7.30-11.30am SHIFT - Once it is quiet soon after 11am, please pack up as follows
FRONT GATE - take all signs back in and place by the tree, bring flag and chairs and cash boxes plus Square Terminal back down to the Store Room.
REAR GATE - Collect all the cones and place back by the tree, put signs back in the box and bring flag and chairs and cash boxes plus Square Terminal back down to the Store Room.
7.30-11.30am SHIFT - once back at Store Room, ask what needs to be done.
This will include - empty all but one rubbish bin - i.e. collect the two bins near Alfred Rd and take to the skip bins in the staff carpark and empty them. Take empty bins to Shed and place to the right next to the kiln cage. Put 2 new bin liners in each of the bins.
Empty 2 of the 3 bins in the area by the deck. If possible, walk along the school building to your right as you face the staff carpark to avoid walking through the market area. Take empty bins to Shed and place to the right next to the kiln cage. Put 2 new bin liners in each of the bins.
Go into the appropriate bathroom
BOYS - empty smaller bin into larger bin and then get out the full bin liner, tie closed, arrange new bin liner in bin. Take that rubbish to the skip bin. (Can be done at the same time as the other rubbish run.)
GIRLS - take out the full bin liner, tie closed, arrange new bin liner in bin.
Take that rubbish to the skip bin. (Can be done at the same time as the other rubbish run.)
Wipe down tables and fold up and put away, stack chairs, wiping any that are dirty and put away.
Help count money/wages.

Can my friends come too?
This is work so please arrange to meet friends after your shift instead.
Can I buy something to eat at the markets?
Yes - bring your own money as you won’t get paid till your shift ends. Plus make sure it is while you are on your break, or after you have finished.
What if I am sick or suddenly have something else on the day of my shift?
Please go on to sign up genius and arrange to swap with another student as soon as possible. If that won’t work, please contact Di on 0411 895 101.

IMPORTANT SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
MAJOR HAZARDS
Moving vehicles - never walk or stand near moving cars. Always wear your fluorescent vest.
Theft - if someone approaches and demands money, give it to them immediately, and alert the nearest adult afterwards.
OTHER HAZARDS
Heavy Lifting - never try and pick up or move items that are too heavy for you to safely lift - ask for help.
Grumpy patrons - some customers have been attending the market for many years and always park in the same area and can get quite grumpy - please be polite and refer them to an adult if necessary.
Sun exposure - please be sunsafe - wear sunscreen, a hat, protective clothing, bring a water bottle.
If you ever notice other hazards - please alert an adult. We value your input.
